Ambiguous Moments – Kelsey Anderson

The inception of this series was a shot that did not seem like much at first, but upon further inspection was mysterious yet lighthearted and invited the viewer to question the subject. I was intrigued by how shooting a simple object could result in an image so unrecognizable. In order to recreate this result, I explored techniques including manipulating light sources as well as shooting with a variety of objects and backdrops. My goal was to create images that, although entirely comprised of light and shadow, do not resemble photographs as much as paintings. I found that the most success came when I allowed myself to be playful in the process of shooting. The result is an enigmatic, abstract, colorful series that tells a different story to each viewer.
